Well, it’s been a few days since we’ve come back from our dream-like recording session, and extensive drive home from the city of charm. The week flew by, and honestly, could not have gone any smoother. We’re refreshed, rested, and would now like to give many many thanks to the following people (and things) that made this trip so great:
Our Kickstarter contributors, friends and family who donated, J. “Toots” Robbins, the Magpie Cage, Chaos the studio kitty, Gordon Wither’s heavy-metal cello’ing, Dan Scheuerman’s engaging croon and his fascination with scissors, Janet Morgan’s dreamy voice, Brooks Harlan’s sultry “Da-da’s”, Kimber Tough for putting our faces in space, Jenn Sweeney’s snaps and clicks, Ronald “Trumpet” Rolling for letting his monkey go, Wright Way’s heart-achey breaky vintage pianos, Flying Dog variety packs, iTrip (sort of), the interns Martin & Mike, Jason’s Australian lady GPS, Nathan’s mysterious bag of food, Jim Abbott and Bao Le Huu for mentioning our blog in their respective blogs, and Kate Wilcox and her family for letting us stay in their a-maze-ing townhouse.
Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anyone! I may have left a few inaminate objects off the list accidentally, which I’m sure I will remember at a later and random time.
This concludes the tracking section of our Record-O-Blog. Please stay tuned for the next installment of posts regarding mixing, mastering, manufacturing, promotion, and everything else that goes along with making a record, which we can only hope will be spun right round, baby.

The beginning of the end. We have 1 more day left of cramming to get all the squares of the big board filled in. It’s starting to look like a pretty one-sided game of Tic-Tac-Toe (or Hollywood Squares for the less analogy crowd). Gordon Withers dropped by last night and knocked out the Whoopie Goldberg spot (or the Jim J. Bullock spot for the even-more sassy crowd). The cello additions could not be more achingly beautiful. Can’t wait to hear Gordon’s album of Pauses tribute songs in 10-20 years. As of Day 5, the hours have started to blend and blur into a disorienting haze of instruments and vocals. Yesterday was a labyrinth of guitar and bass and cello and vocals and feedback recording. Today was no different with 2 final Guitar tracks, Stomps, Claps, Keyboards, Bells, Vibraphone, and the Rhodes finally dusted off for a number of patiently waiting tracks, that apparently will have to wait even longer since we now have to rent a rhodes that doesn’t have a missing tine. At least we lugged it all the way to Baltimore before it decided to fall apart on us. Maybe we’ll see you on the next album Florida-Rhodes. Tomorrow is guaranteed to be action-packed with visits from Janet Morgan on the BG Vox and Ron the Trumpet player who will be giving Go North a much deserved working over. We will also be studio hopping to Right Way studios to track Big Ol’ Grand Piano type sounds for Little Kids, Hands Up, and Beyond Bianca. Whew, I’m tired just typing it all. Stayed tuned for the thrilling conclusion. Same blog time, same blog channel.

A little Leslie never hurt anyone.
The Middle and Beyond. We crossed over the halfway point yesterday without even a moment’s worth of laurel resting. The vortex of the Magpie Cage pushes the clock at breakneck speed. We have no choice but to defy it by moving just as quickly. Yesterday was “jam”-packed with switcheroos and didgeridoos*. In the most heartbreakingly adorable scene imaginable since Once, Dan Scheuerman of Deleted Scenes fame and Tierney Tough of us fame crooned directly at each other for our soon to be completed hidden (shhhhh) track, Tonight You Belong To Me. Just prior to that, the tiny Marshall (see below) was put to actual use for the tracking of the Ukulele. To get rid of the romantic aftertaste of Tonight, the most face-melting of guitar tracks were put to the 1s and 0s for Beyond Bianca, The Migration, and Community. Seriously, don’t listen to the album without a mop handy. The surprise guests continue as Gordon Withers joins us today for cello tracking on Little Kids and Hands Up. Stay tuned for what are sure to be videos of us being told to keep our filthy paws off the cello…..and possibly Gordon.
* - Didgeridoo actually a ukulele, though ukulele does not rhyme so conveniently with switcheroo.

Anonymous asked: can we have more behind-the-scenes drama? you know, like when dylan and chopper got in a fight on making the band 2.
Hey, it’s only the third day!
